I started out last season with a stock 305 tuned port IROC running 15.4 in the 1/4. 15 second time slips were not doing it for me, so we started doing a low budget transformation on the IROC.
First on the list was a basic tune up and some weight reduction that put me in the mid 14s. That wasn't good enough so we spent about $500.00 on some used Weld wheels, Mickey Thompson slicks and skinnies that netted a 14.20 time slip. Now I wanted to run 13's so Jason put in a call to Derick at Phoenix converters and he built up a little 2800 stall to get that Z out of the hole. We picked the converter up and installed it the night before the EFA Fbody shoot out at MIR. First pass down the track was a 13.96 and after that run, the car ran low 13.9s the rest of the day. We picked up 1.5 seconds since last summer. Not bad for less then a thousand bucks in mods and little time.

It is almost a year in a half later without racing or a car, and I finally have another a 3rd gen. This go around I decided to try out a Firebird, instead of another Camaro. It is a nasty '86 Firebird Trans Am. Granted the Camaro was my first race car, this one is a lot better and faster.
The Trans Am comes with a 350, internals are unknown. Everything else we do believe is stock with the car.
First time around at the track was a disaster because of lack of tires. Racing on street tires is not fun. As result, I was spinning all the way down the track with a mid 15 time. Not a happy day for me, due to my runs that day I didn't expect much more than mid 14.5.

I was determined to get tires as one of my first mods. I got Mickey Thompson drag radials, which are fantastic. The first time I ran the car after the tires, the rear broke, due to the tires being so sticky and the rear not having posi.
After that we decided to put a spool, since 2500 bux was not in the budget at the time.
After the spool it was time to go back to the track. I was hoping and praying nothing would break. I launched and ran, thinking a mid 14.5. When I got my time slip to my surprise she ran a 13.9. By the end of about 30 runs in her, the car does a best of 13.67. Next mod, will either be headers or a torque converter, who knows.
