BRET

Looks like the hard work paid off!

It has been a long hard road, but Bret’s car has met and exceeded his goals of becoming a 9 second streetcar.  The current combination, consisting of an HPE 408 with Hoops Performance Cylinder heads and a Texas Speed "Giant" cam, has netted a best of 9.41 @ 143mph on a 250 shot.  With a looser converter, the combo went 10.68 @ 126mph on the motor.  Sixty foot times have been as good as 1.30 so far. Not bad considering the car still has a complete interior and weighs in at 3675 pounds.  The car is driven to the track, and the times are on drag radials, through mufflers, and on pump gas.

The car has come a long way over the years and has close to  1000 passes on it in various forms from stock to now. One good season of weekly bracket racing alone resulted in over 350 passes. Along the way, a 10 pt chromoly rollcage was installed by Performance Automotive Fabrication.  F-Body Central changed the transmission from stock to a built 4L60E, and later to a competition TH400.  Numerous suspension upgrades, all with drag racing consistency in mind, were done by F-Body Central.  The car currently runs a 12-bolt with 3.73 gears and a spool that was installed by FBC.  The fuel and nitrous systems were also handled by FBC.

Future plans for the car include plenty more racing, but more street action and cruising are on the agenda next year.  As far as pushing things further, Bret is content with the car’s current performance, and is choosing to just enjoy it at this point.  Some gains may be found through refinement of the setup, but nothing huge is expected.
